Codium Codium spp.

Codium are a group of green seaweeds which have the same photosynthetic pigments as land plants. Only a small proportion of this type of seaweed live in fully marine environments. They are dark green with a spongy texture, forming long, branching fronds with rounded tips.

Where to see in Scotland

The middle and lower shore, often on the vertical sides of rockpools and ledges.

Snorkelling can be dangerous and is done entirely at your own risk.
